1. The blue team player, S3 on the left in the picture below, who is in the action of blocking a ball, contacts the net tape with her hands. The second referee should whistle, step to the fault side, and signal net fault on S3.

2. All time-outs requested by either team last 60 seconds.

3. A player’s uniform includes a jersey and shorts, but athletic/sport pants are illegal.

4. After setting the ball, player R4 next begins to move to another position on the court, but brushes the bottom of the net with an elbow. This should be whistled a net fault.

5. A Libero in the front zone makes a team’s third hit. The ball is contacted below the top of the net, and goes onto the floor of the opponent’s court. This is not legal.

6. A volleyball tournament match is won by the team that wins two out of three sets.

7. The head coach may stand and instruct the team during the match, as long as they are at least 5’ 10” from the sideline.

8. Jersey numbers must be clearly visible and centered on the chest and upper back.

9. In the picture, #9 in the purple jersey is the second referee. She has moved to the blocker’s side of the net to see the blocking action of the team with the white jerseys. To be on the blocker’s side of the net during play is the right position for the second referee.

10. Line-ups must be turned in at least two minutes before the end of the warm-up period, and at least 30 seconds before the end of the time between sets.

11. As the picture shows, the player on the right side of the court in the red jersey has made a play near the centerline. The position of her foot on the centerline would require the referees to call a centerline fault.

12. All delay sanctions remain in force for the one set and not the entire match.

13. The Libero, who is standing at the net, jumps and reaches above the top of the net to block the ball, but does not touch the ball. This play is legal and play continues.

14. Jewelry may not be worn by juniors because it always presents a safety concern.

15. In the picture, the second referee is giving the correct signal for a USAV substitution after she whistles to stop the game.

16. Before each match begins, the warm-ups will include two minutes for ball handling for both teams on their side of the court, then four minutes for the serving team on the entire court, and then four minutes for the receiving team on the entire court.

17. For every match, teams have the right to assign, from the list of players on their roster, only one defensive player called a Libero.

18. For 14 and under competition, a player has eight seconds to contact the serve during the first attempt.

19. During service, a player does not have to release the ball from their hand(s) before contacting the serve with one hand or arm.

20. When playing on sport court at tournaments, all substitutes must sit on their team bench or stand behind the bench.

21. Each team is allowed 12 substitutions per set.

22. The Libero must wear a jersey that clearly contrasts in color with the jersey color of their teammates.

23. A team must have six players to play.

24. Whenever one team requests multiple substitutions, the substitutes must enter the substitution zone in succession, one pair at time, to be authorized to enter the match.

25. In the picture, the scorer is not giving the correct signal to the second referee at the end of a substitution.
